Cornerstone is the alcohol and drug abuse commission serving Greenwood, Edgefield, McCormick, and Abbeville counties in the lower piedmont region of South Carolina.

We provide prevention, intervention, and treatment services for persons who have been impacted by alcohol and drug use and by problem gambling.

For more information about our agency, click on the links in the left-hand column.

Our mission is to reduce the negative health, social, and economic consequences resulting from the use and abuse of alcohol and other drugs.

Our professional staff includes credentialed prevention professionals, nationally certified addictions counselors, licensed social workers, licensed professional counselors, and substance abuse professionals.

The agency was established in 1973 through the passage of state legislation and county ordinances.

Cornerstone is licensed by the SC Department of Health and Environmental Control (SC DHEC).

The agency has been nationally accredited by CARF - The Rehabilitation Accreditation Commission since 1993.

CONFIDENTIALITY: Cornerstone falls under federal confidentiality regulations governing alcohol and drug abuse patient records, including the Health Insurance Portability Accountability Act (HIPAA).

SCREENING & INTAKE: When someone calls to make an appointment, we will screen for clinical needs and appropriateness.  An appointment is usually available within five days.  In conformance with federal law, we give priority for admission to pregnant women and IV drug users.

A WORD ABOUT FEES: A flat fee scale, in conjunction with a payment plan, is used for those persons who are deemed able to pay for services.  No one is denied services based on an inability to pay.  We are a Medicaid provider and will file other insurance.

IF YOU WANT TO REFER CLIENTS TO US: Most general "release of information" forms do not conform to federal confidentiality standards.  If you would like to refer potential clients to Cornerstone, we can provide you with a supply of releases that do meet the federal standards.  Ask your clients to sign one of these releases at the time you make a referral and then fax or mail it to us.  This will allow our staff to inform you of your client's status with us.  Please share with us any pertinent information regarding your reason for referring.  Also, let us know how you would like for us to communicate to you our treatment recommendations (i.e. - phone call, written evaluation, etc.).
