PREVENTION PROGRAMS
Cornerstone's prevention programs are designed to:
2) delay the age of first use of alcohol and other drugs; 3) avoid the development of problems related to the use of alcohol and other drugs; and 4) to promote the agency and its services.
The agency encourages community involvement in the agency’s prevention efforts. Collaboration and coordination with the community and with other community resources are necessary elements for effective prevention initiatives.
Cornerstone offers substance abuse education, training and awareness programming for special populations, schools, industries, churches and the community at large.
Other prevention activities include:
Parent Education: Cornerstone currently offers Guiding Good Choices, a five-session parenting curriculum, to help parents and other caregivers deal with children on issues faced by today’s adolescents.
Adolescent Education: Cornerstone offers Project TND (Towards No Drug Abuse), a 12-session science-based programs that provide health information along with teaching general life skills and drug resistance skills.
Merchant Education: Cornerstone provides the Palmetto Retailers Education Program (PREP), a merchant education curriculum for alcohol and tobacco merchants. Click here for more details about PREP.
Teen Leadership Connection (TLC): TLC helps middle school students to develop drug refusal skills and to set a positive example among their peers.
Teens Under Fire (TUF): TUF is an alcohol awareness and highway safety education program targeting adolescents, young adults, and their parents/guardians.
Faithreach: A statewide initiative to encourage and assist faith communities (churches, synagogues, mosques, etc.) in becoming involved in alcohol and other drug prevention and other related issues associated with alcohol and other drug use and abuse.
Community Outreach: Cornerstone provides materials for health fairs, conducts educational presentations, and assists with various community efforts such as Red Ribbon Week, Boo Bash, and Prom Promise.
